Synex Energy Resources Ltd is a British Columbia company established in May 1984. Current ownership and operations include one hydropower plant and a grid connection (powerline).
Synex Energy concentrated initially on the supply of energy to remote facilities. Historically, remote communities have been largely ignored as an energy consumer. Due to moderate energy demands in comparison with large industries and cities, relatively high cost alternatives and the fact that such communities lay outside the service territories of utilities, traditional financing methods could not be utilized. Provision of energy to such communities still remains a costly and inconvenient burden to corporations, institutions and residents. Synex Energy can provide long term and secure power supplied to service the unique energy requirements of these communities.
Development of a provincial independent power policy together with the potential deregulation of the electricity market will provide new opportunities for Synex Energy. The fact that power supply in the provincial system is moving toward load-resource balance means that additional sources of generation are required. Both BC Hydro and West Kootenay Power have made calls for proposals for supply to the integrated grid system. Synex Energy intends to pursue such opportunities independently or with partners where appropriate. In addition to energy projects other opportunities which may arise requiring the management, technical and financial capability of the company will be considered.
The future course of Synex Energy in British Columbia and other jurisdictions will be to continue providing solutions for remote communities, the resource industry (mines and forestry camps) and the increasing number of projects which will supply energy to the integrated grid.
